Located in the central part of Africa, the Central African Republic covers an area of 602,000 square km and has a population of 3.9 million, mostly believing in primitive religions, Catholicism, Christianity and Islam. French and Sango are the official languages. The national capital is Bangui, and the current president is Francois Bozizé.

Bilateral friendly exchanges and cooperation have been growing rapidly since China and the Central African Republic restored diplomatic relations in February 1998. The two countries have been working in close cooperation in international affairs. The governments of the two countries have been stepping up economic and technological cooperation. Great progress has been made in exchanges and cooperation in such fields as culture, education, and health. Then Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan visited the Central African Republic in 2001. Francois Bozizé, the president of the Central African Republic, visited China in 2004. Bilateral trade hit 16 million U.S. dollars in 2005.
