
Located in the central-north part of Africa, the Republic of Chad
covers an area of 1280000 square km and has a population of 9.8 million
belonging to such ethnic groups as Berber, Ouaddai, Sara and Massa. Local
residents believe in Islam, Christianity and primitive religions. French and
Arabic are the official languages. N'Djamena is the national Capital and the
current president is Idriss Deby Itno.
Since China and Chad restored ambassadorial diplomatic relations
on Aug. 6, 2006, bilateral personnel exchanges and cooperation in various fields
have been on fast track. The Chinese Government has always supported the Chad
Government in its endeavor to maintain its national sovereignty and expanding
its economy. The Chad Government adheres to the one-China policy that the
Chinese Government is the only legitimate government representing the whole of
China, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of the Chinese territory. In 2005,
bilateral trade reached 206 million U.S. dollars.
