President of Eritrea arrives in Beijing for summit

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki arrived in Beijing on Saturday morning for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation running from Nov 4 to 5.

Eritrea established diplomatic ties with China on May 24, 1993, the very day when the country proclaimed independence.

The president paid a state visit to China in 2005. Bilateral trade reached 8.41 million U. S. dollars in 2005.

Upon Isaias Afwerki's arrival, a total of 48 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China have sent delegations to the two-day summit, 42 of which are headed by their leaders of state or government.


Zimbabwean president arrives in Beijing for China-Africa summit

Zimbabwean President Robert Gabriel Mugabe arrived in Beijing on Friday for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

A total of 48 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China are to participate in the two-day summit, which is scheduled to start on Nov. 4.

China and Zimbabwee established diplomatic relations on the very day when Zimbabwe declared independence on April 18, 1980. Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, visited Zimbabwe in 2004. Zimbabwean President Mugabe visited China in 2005.

Prior to his departure for China, Mugabe said the summit in Beijing will be a crucial one for building closer bilateral relations between the two nations.

Zimbabwe is a destination country for Chinese citizens and tourist groups. Bilateral trade reached 283 million U.S. dollars in 2005.

Forty-seven delegations of the 48 African countries have arrived in Beijing so far for the summit, including 41 heads of state or government.

Comoran president returns to Beijing for China-Africa summit

BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Comoran President Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi Friday returned here from east China's Zhejiang Province, for the forthcoming Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation scheduled for Nov. 4-5.

Before his arrival in the Chinese capital, the Comoran president visited Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang, and Yiwu, China's largest distribution center for small commodities in Zhejiang.

Sambi started his China visit on Oct. 31.
